Two Murray High students participated in the American Legion Speaking Contest in Eddyville, Ky. At the competition, Ali Yarali won first place ($500), and Marli Mehta won second place ($400). Yarali advances to the next round of competition which will be held in February.
The competition was open to all high school students in grades 9-12 who are less than 20 years old. Since 1938, The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students
Competitors were required to deliver and eight-to-ten-minute prepared oration on some aspect of the Constitution with an emphasis on the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government.
