Murray, Ky., Nov. 21, 2024------During the Murray Independent School District (MISD) November Board Meeting, a presentation was provided on Murray Middle School’s selection as a training site by the Kentucky Autism Training Center (KATC) in collaboration with West Kentucky Educational Cooperative (WKEC) for the 2024-2025 school year. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the Murray District’s commitment to enhancing support and education for students with autism.
Through this initiative, Murray Middle School will receive comprehensive, evidence-based training for staff members, ongoing support, and resources from KATC experts, and implementation guidance for best practices in autism education. This partnership not only benefits Murray Middle School but also strengthens the entire Murray Calloway County community.
The Enhancing Student Support training offered through this initiative will focus on:
1. Deepening understanding of autism spectrum disorders
2. Implementing evidence-based practices in the classroom
3. Tailoring support to meet the unique needs of each student
4. Building a more inclusive and supportive learning environment
David McDowell, MISD Special Education director, said the Murray Independent School District, is always seeking ways to enhance the educational experience of all students and to support staff development. “The partnership with KATC and WKEC as an Autism School Training Site is already making a positive impact on the educational experience of our students.”

The KATC/[Cooperative] Autism School Training Site Initiative is a highly competitive program designed to strengthen Kentucky's systems of support for individuals with autism. Based at the University of Louisville, The Kentucky Autism Training Center is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families. KATC provides training, resources, and support to professionals and families across the state.
