Hunter Carter, MES Music Teacher, has been named the 2023 First District KMEA Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Denise Whitaker, MES principal, described Carter as an amazing music teacher. "Our students absolutely love going to his music classes," she said. "Our students have learned so much from him, and continue to be involved in learning about singing and playing instruments. He makes music fun."
Each year, members from First District KMEA nominate candidates to receive Elementary, Middle, High School, and Collegiate Teacher of the Year awards. Those candidates are then voted on for selection of the respective district's (Teacher of the Year) recognitions.
"Hunter is very deserving of this honor," said Tim Zeiss, First District KMEA president. "He has earned the respect from his students, colleagues and peers, while creating such a positive learning environment for the students of the Murray Independent School district."
Award winners are now eligible for the overall Kentucky Music Teacher of the Year Award.
