MMS Student Finalist in KET Young Writers Contest

Student Named Finalist in KET Writing Contest

Brody Fields

Murray Middle School fourth grade student, Brody Fields, has been named a Finalist in the Intermediate Division of the POETRY category in the 2023 KET Young Writers Contest for his entry, "Quiet."

Sheri Muehleman, Murray Independent Gifted teacher, commended Fields for this accomplishment. “Brody is a student who rises to any challenge in the classroom, and he will continue to inspire other students to share their creativity with the world.”

KET's judges were impressed by the compelling stories, strong characters, and emotional imagery included throughout the contest entries. With more than 2,400 entries this year, the competition was fierce. KET judges praised the overall power of student voice throughout the entries as devastating lows, incredible highs, new perspectives, creative challenges, and hope for the future were expressed in the writings.

Held annually, the KET Young Writers Contest encourages students to celebrate the power of creativity by crafting their own, original stories, poems, and illustrations. The contest accepts submissions from across the Commonwealth, from students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, across four categories of writing.

A certificate and yard sign announcing his finalist status will be presented to Fields for this honor.

Fields is the son of David and Jessica Fields, Murray. #murrayschools

Quiet

Quiet,

so quiet I can hear the dew falling of leaves to the ground.

Quiet,

So quiet that I can hear the sound of the ocean tide hitting the soft sand from a mile.

Quiet,

So quiet I can hear crickets in the night.

Quiet,

So quiet.
