MHS Band Students Advance to KMEA All District Band

MHS Band Students Awarded

The following Murray High School students earned a spot in the KMEA All State Band or Orchestra (second picture left to right): Leah Jenkins- 10th grade oboe- concert band, Madelyn Myers- 10th grade violin- orchestra, Braden Peck- 12th grade euphonium- concert band, Syd Custer- 12th grade French horn- concert band, Isaac Elkins- 12th grade snare- orchestra, Omar Khatib- 10th grade bass clarinet- concert band, Selvam Antony- 9th grade bari sax- 1st chair bari sax- symphonic band, and Jackson Morris- 11th grade trumpet- concert band.

The Kentucky Music Education Association (KMEA) named forty-one Murray High School Tiger Band students to their All-District band. The All District band will practice at Paducah Tilghman High School January 5-7 and conclude with a concert on Saturday, January 7. The all district band is made up of students from 13 various schools in our district. Students prepare music, scales, and sight reading and goes through a blind audition process to earn membership in the band.

The All-District named 20 students who advanced to the second round of the KMEA All State Auditions that were held at John Hardin High School. There were approximately 900 students from across the state vying for a spot in the prestigious KMEA All State Band or Orchestra.

The KMEA All State Bands will rehearse in Louisville on February 8-11, 2023 culminating with a concert on February 11.

This is a record number of Murray HS for both groups.
