Lisa Boyd donated a $1,000 to the Murray Middle School Band in memory of her late son, Brandon Myers, who passed away unexpectedly in 2016 at 31 from a heart-attack. Brandon was musically talented and played the guitar, dulcimer, banjo, and mandolin. A former saxophone player in the marching band, Brandon self-taught himself to play the piano.

Beth Stribling, MMS band director, said the donation came at the most opportune time ."The morning of the donation one of our instruments broke and needed a major repair," Stribling explained. "This incredibly thoughtful donation came totally out of the blue and an angel must have whispered in her ear. This money will help in the repair."

Stribling was moved by Ms. Boyd telling of how her son's love for band prompted her generosity. "This was such a wonderful example of passing that love forward."

“This is an amazing act of love from Ms. Boyd to her deceased son. Brandon’s passion for music will be carried on through the generous donation to the MMS Tiger Band,” said Bob Horne, MMS principal.

Brandon's son, Blake, is an eighth grade MMS student, and the grandson of Lisa Boyd.
