Murray Head Start Installs Air Disinfection Inside Early Head Start Classrooms
Murray, KY – September 16, 2021-----Murray Head Start (Early Head Start) classrooms in Calloway, Fulton, Graves, Hickman and McCracken, are receiving WellAir’s air disinfection devices to help reduce harmful microorganisms in the air. The devices use patented NanoStrike™ technology, and the installation managed by MEDformance, a WellAir national distributor, is being completed this week.
Cindy Graves, Murray Head Start director, said the decision to implement WellAir's disinfection devices in Murray's five Early Head Start sites was made to continue the healthiest environments for the program's youngest children and staff. "Improving the air quality in our classrooms will have a big impact on removing toxins and decreasing illness. The proven results of the WellAir devices made taking this step an easy decision as we use funds targeted for child and staff wellness,” she said.
After a trial run with the WellAir device before purchasing, Murray Head Start is optimistic there will be enhanced attendance of children, reduced employee absence due to less illness, along with better odor control and clean air-flow in older buildings. "Staff members would arrive on Monday mornings and develop symptoms that included headaches, sneezing, watery eyes, burning sensations in the back of the throat, and hives by the end of the day," Whitney Pile, RN, Murray Head Start Health Services Coordinator explained. "I also experienced these symptoms. We certainly suspected a problem, but the results of our tests were eye opening. With the devices running, there is no longer a connection between arriving to work and the symptoms listed above."
MEDformance is a healthcare company with deep experience in medical diagnostics. They have worked closely with Murray Head Start to plan and execute the installation. As part of their proprietary MEDformance Safer Solutions™ layered IDC (Infectious Disease Control) approach, they are also collecting data to help target, measure and improve the effectiveness of Murray Head Starts ongoing infection control and air quality strategies.
Brad Cleaver, VP of Sales MEDformance, said better indoor air quality has been shown to improve aspects of early development, including physical health, attention and focus, cognitive processing, and overall sense of well-being. "Anything we can do as a team to assist in retaining our children in front or our educators for in person learning, is our number one common goal."
