Murray KIDS Company Resumes Summer Session with new Director
and First-Time Educational Enhanced Opportunities Offered
The Murray Independent School District welcomes Melissa Durham as the new KIDS Company District Director. Durham received her elementary education bachelors in 2003 from Murray State University. After joining the MISD in a dual role in 1998, as an instructional assistant and also KIDS Company assistant, Durham advanced to KIDS Company assistant director, and then to KIDS Company Site Manager.
Durham is excited to resume the MISD KIDS Company summer and after-school care program for elementary and middle school students. “It’s so nice and exciting to re-open our program, and provide this opportunity for students to return and interact socially with friends, while also assisting parents.”
A new exciting KIDS Company will offer first-time enhanced educational opportunities and activities for students: Community guest speakers, Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) activities, MHS students leading fun-day activities, broadcast journalism newscasts, ATC (Area Technology Center) special presentations, as well as numerous other fun-events will be provided to students during the summer session.
The KIDS Company after school program will begin May 24, 2021 and conclude July 16. The re-opening of the KIDS Company program will follow COVID regulations: masking up, 6 foot desk separation inside classrooms, and at meal times. A $30 registration fee is required, as well as a $100 (per student) programming fee.
Special note: (There will be no KIDS Company, Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day Holiday) or Friday, July 2( July 4 Holiday weekend.) Durham said a google form for parents to express their interest has been sent via school messenger. Parents who express an interest will receive registration packets through the student’s respective school (MES or MMS). Plans are being finalized to announce the Fall 2021 KIDS Company program to be offered the first day of school, August 5, 2021. More details will be sent to parents via schoolmessenger once plans are finalized.
