Stakeholders of Murray Independent Schools,
Today (01/29/21), Detectives of the Murray Police Department arrested Kya Nelson a 19-year-old of Racine, Wisconsin. It is believed that Nelson is responsible for the threats against Murray High School earlier this week (false shots fired call on Monday and the bomb threat on Tuesday).
This individual is charged with two counts of terroristic threatening, 2nd degree, which are Class D felonies punishable by one to five years in prison; and one count of terroristic threatening, 1st degree, for the bomb threat, which is a Class C felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison. Nelson is currently held at the Racine County (WI) Jail, awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
Murray Independent Schools would like to thank the Murray Police Department, Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Murray State Police Department, Kentucky State Police, FBI, ATF, Racine Police Department, Murray Fire Department, Murray Calloway County Ambulance Service, Calloway County Fire Rescue and the 42nd Circuit Commonwealth’s Attorney Office for their quick response, support, and investigations which led to a quick resolution to this matter.
All district schools and programs will resume normal operations on Monday, February 01, 2021.
