Murray Independent School District (MISD) School Board Member, Shawn Smee, was recently appointed to the Kentucky State School Board Association Board of Directors. Smee will serve as the regional chairperson for Region One with a term that ends in 2022. The Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) was established in 1936 and represents 862 school board members from across the state to provide training, services and collegiality to aid in the effort of providing the best education possible for public school students across Kentucky.
Coy Samons, MISD Superintendent, stated “ We are extremely pleased with the selection of Mr. Smee as chairperson of KSBA Region One. He is committed to excellence in public education, student-centered, an accomplished Board of Education member and a respected community leader.”
Smee was elected to the MISD school board in 2018. He is currently the Director of Recruitment at Murray State University where we received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Shawn and his wife, Lauren, have four children in the school district.
