Gray explained the funding came from year-end discretionary funds which include the Murray Electric Company, a TVA local power distributor. “We like our focus on STEAM programs, and believe the money is best used for this program,” she said. “We are very glad to be here and assist the MISD STEAM program.”
Mechelle Morgan, MISD Digital Learning coach, said the funding will be used towards purchasing new Google Expedition Goggles, which will allow all students to travel the world, learn about different cultures, and experience true virtual field trips. “These goggles allow students to take virtual field trips all around the world, right from their classroom. The places they are studying about come to life with Google Expeditions, therefore this will be a great addition to our instructional technology resources.”
Morgan said students can travel the world, learn about different cultures allow the students to really “see” a different world around them.
Coy Samons, MISD superintendent, expressed MISD’s appreciation. “I would like to thank both TVA and Murray Electric for their support to our STEAM programs,” he said. “We could not offer as many opportunities for our students as we do without community support.”
