MISD Athletic Director Releases Statement: KHSAA Rules Fall Sports Will Happen

MISD Fall Sports Will Happen

Ann Greenfield, Murray Independent School District Athletic Director, said the Kentucky High School Athletics Association (KHSAA) Board of Control, with the recommendation from KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett, voted 16-2 to allow Cross Country, Football, Soccer and Volley to begin practicing, Monday, August 24, 2020. Kentucky fall Sports (middle school and high school) will proceed as planned. Games, matches, and meets will begin the week of September 7-12. All CDC Guidelines will not change requiring players and coaches to social distance and coaches will be mandated to wear masks. "This is an exciting day for us. Our coaching staff and student-athletes have displayed a tremendous job of following the CDC guidelines. We realize this has been hard and it is a huge adjustment for them, but they have been positive throughout," said Greenfield.

This decision does hinge on approval from the Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky Department of Public Health, but ultimately, each district will finalize their individual plans. The MISD willl release attendance guidelines of future events at a later date. "We appreciate our superintendent, Coy Samons, for his support and the community for always being there to help our district any way they can," Greenfield said.

Greenfield said as further information becomes available it will be released.
