MHS SPEECH SENIORS TO COMPETE IN NATIONALS ONLINE
Murray, Ky., April 30-----On Monday evening during an online awards ceremony, it was announced that Murray High School Speech Team seniors Chellam Antony and Isaac Gallimore have been chosen to represent Kentucky and compete in the online National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament. Antony will compete in Humorous Interpretation and Gallimore will compete in US Extemp. The national tournament will be held virtually June 14-20. Both Antony and Gallimore were Kentucky High School Speech League Regional Champions in their respective events.
Murray High Speech Team seniors Kathryn Jenkins and Mia Todd will enter the 2020 Online Senior Open Tournament to be held May 29-31. Jenkins will compete in Humorous Interpretation and Todd in Mixed Extemp. The 2020 Online Senior Open is a national level tournament that will host competition to include seniors who are not competing in the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament Online. Both Jenkins and Todd were Kentucky High School Speech League Regional Champions in other events (Informative and Program Oral Interpretation, respectively).
Both Isaac Gallimore and Mia Todd previously qualified in Extemp to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Speech Tournament that was to be held in Chicago. The NCFL Tournament was cancelled because of the COVID-19 outbreak and will not be re-scheduled. Other Murray High students who qualified for NCFL included junior Patrick Jones (Oratory) and Katelynn Stanczyk (Declamation).
