Students whose first language is not English is a growing population in the Murray Independent Schools. Many language groups are represented in grades K-12. The English language proficiency of these students ranges from non-English speaking to communicatively competent.

Assisting students to learn English is a commitment of the Murray Independent Schools. In our schools, limited English proficient (LEP) students face the demands of learning English language, English literacy skills, and curriculum content. We are determined to provide our support and instruction in learning a new language; and feeling welcomed and comfortable in a new culture. MISD wants LEP students to reach high educational standards which will enable them to succeed in our society.
