Murray Middle: General Information
Murray Middle has transformed its campus into a school facility suited for the twenty-first century and its growing population. Recent renovation and construction activities that costed more than nine million dollars more than doubled the size of the school.
Murray Middle School currently consists of one academic building and an athletic complex located on an attractive campus in the center of Murray. The main building, constructed in 1922, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As a former high school, the building possesses a full-sized auditorium and gymnasium.
Students in grades 4-5 attend classes in the new two-story wing. They share many learning experiences and also have clubs and activities geared to their age level and interests.
In addition to its core academic area teachers, Murray Middle employs teachers for art, music, physical education and health, band, journalism, and theatre. In addition to these areas, there are also teachers for students with special needs and a guidance counselor. The core curriculum for all students is language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students in all grades have regular instruction in reading, music, technology, visual arts, health, and physical education.
In its instructional program, Murray Middle School recognizes that young adolescents need diversity in their academic and social lives, opportunities to explore and define who they are and what they believe, and positive and meaningful learning experiences. The school council stresses flexibility in instruction, organization, and scheduling. Teachers often combine classes for interdisciplinary studies or may teach a particular unit with another teach
